FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOSTON, MA (January 22, 2026) – Public Media Management (PMM) today announced the launch of its new managed cloud master control solution, PMM Cloud, built on more than 10 years of experience operating PMM’s hybrid master control service (PMM Classic) through the Network Operations Center based at GBH Boston. PMM Cloud extends this proven foundation with a cloud-first architecture, offering stations an enhanced master control system at a significantly lower cost, with 99.9% reliability and expanded capabilities.
PMM Cloud is a comprehensive managed service that integrates with essential broadcast operational areas: scheduling, optimization, broadcast traffic, and reliable linear channel playback with local live capabilities. Built on technologies widely used by major commercial broadcast organizations, PMM Cloud brings enterprise-grade reliability, performance, and scalability to public media—thoughtfully tailored to the operational, financial, and mission-driven needs of public television stations.
The PMM Cloud solution emerged from extensive conversations at the 2025 NAB Conference and a subsequent RFP process, informed by PMM leadership’s recognition of the financial pressures and aging infrastructure facing many public media stations. In Q4 2025, PMM evaluated three vendor solutions and conducted proofs of concept with three existing PMM client stations, ultimately selecting a single, best-fit platform. The result is a rigorously tested, production-ready solution tailored to the operational realities of public media.
“Public media stations are navigating increasing financial pressure alongside aging broadcast infrastructure,” said Shane Miner, COO of GBH. “Being part of the testing process has excited us about the solid technical solutions PMM is preparing to offer stations."
A True Cloud-First Evolution
This new solution represents a significant evolution in operational services that moves beyond traditional playback models for the following benefits:
Simplifies Engineering and Maintenance
The system is specifically designed to reduce engineering complexity and maintenance by consolidating technologies onto a resilient, managed platform. The new system substantially reduces on-premises hardware to a rack unit appliance that provides bi-directional connectivity for linear channel playout, alternative live feeds, and local live ingest via Serial digital interface (SDI) or transport over IP (TSOIP). ● Provides Operational Simplicity: The platform is designed for seamless “hands-off the wheel" operations for routine programming, which allows station personnel to be entirely focused on managing their local engagement. Local staff retains the ability to make last-minute changes or take control and go live, including inserting local content and running live local events.
PMM Cloud is a natural evolution for PMM to go from traditional broadcast management to a next-generation, fully reliable, cloud-based solution with additional modern, digital features, including:
● Digital streaming management
● Video on demand
● Monetization opportunities (unique to PMM’s cloud-based JMC solution)
● Readiness for future technologies like ATSC 3.0.
● State-of-the-art graphics and branding capabilities that enable stations to deliver a polished, modern, on-air presentation while maintaining local identity and editorial control
Transparent and Predictable Pricing
The new, more reliable and enhanced PMM Cloud-based JMC is offered for $4,000/month for its core services plus $575 per month for pass-through services with branding. There are NO additional equipment costs. A single piece of physical hardware is provided as part of the solution free of charge.
PMM is committed to the operational resilience and long-term sustainability of public media stations while enabling them to focus entirely on their communities. “PMM’s goal is to take the technical burden off stations so they can focus on what matters most,” said Marc Hand, CEO of Public Media Management. “Our new solution enables us to deliver a cloud-first, modernized master control solution—leveraging the same proven technologies used by leading commercial broadcasters, while tailoring them specifically for public media stations—to lower operating costs and create new opportunities for local impact.”
